Prevent duplicate purchases
Ali Ryder
When a customer tries to purchase a product they're already currently an active particpant on, ask them if they're sure before proceeding.
Like, on the checkout screen a blurb that says "Hey, it looks like you're already an active participant on this product. Are you sure you want to purchase it again? Here's a link to your content."

Hi Calvin Correli,
I’m struggling to understand why the Prevent Duplicate Purchases issue still hasn’t been fixed.
These days, I’m spending more time issuing refunds and canceling subscriptions than actually growing my business — all because members are able to purchase the same subscription twice.
I remember there used to be a warning box to prevent this. Why was it removed from Simplero?
Of course, it would make sense to have different warnings depending on whether the subscription is active, expired, or canceled — but having no warning at all is causing unnecessary work and frustration.
Here’s the ticket where the warning was removed:
Thank you in advance
All the best

Jannik Holgersen Hi Jannik! This makes total sense and it should be simple to implement. I'll talk with the team and try to get this done shortly

I see this is over 2 years old. I just opened a support ticket today because this needs to be dealt with.
I have been having a recurring issue of people purchasing something they already have access to - what is a way I can prevent this? On the catalog page in Simplero, I have no ability to add any additional messages. I could add something on every single product, but that seems weird. Ideas? Suggestions?
Should I build a landing page that acts as the catalog so that I can make this very clear to people, or is there a way to show/hide products that have already been purchased?
Refunds cost me money. Store credit in Simplero is a joke. But this problem keeps coming up lately.

Kelly Schaub Same here.. Support just refer to this ticket.

Calvin Correli I think you should have the team take a look at this. This feature really need to be able to be set on a per product basis. I know the old warning was removed because it caused confusion on products where people were supposed to be able to purchase multiple times. But now the problem has just been reversed, so instead we have people purchasing the same product over again. Which either leads to them having to be refunded when they realize they just purchased something they already had. Or in the case of free products (maybe free secret prices X seats sold to one corporation), where people use the sign up link over and over again instead of just logging in to the content, and thus taking up multiple seats (or just being a pain causing purchase notifications to fire all the time).

Merete Stenner: Super, thank you for your post. I have that problem, people keep signing up to the same (free)course again and again instead of signing in....

Merete Stenner: All of this!

Agree - let it be a setting on the products, if the customers should be able to purchase the same product multiple times

We have customers purchasing the same product multiple times ... we have rarely had this happen in the past because a message was showing on the order form to warn the purchaser but did not prevent the purchaser from purchasing again, but the warning message was removed as a "feature request".
I want the message back or something similar and I suggest that you give an option to specify products that can be purchased multiple times. I only have one client using Simplero who would use this feature so maybe this is not a priority but thought I would mention in case the change would be best made at the same time.

I have a customer today that purchased the wrong product because they already had a similar one and thought that the software would prevent or alert them from buying the same product twice. So she bought the wrong thing and I had to manually edit her purchase.
A couple weeks ago, I had created a coupon code for the employees at a business that I had B2B dealings with to access a course for free. The coupon had limited uses. One of the customers didn't understand how to access her purchase after the transaction went through, and she purchased it twice, using 2 uses of the coupon code that she was supposed to only use one of.
I understand that there are plenty of products that people might want to buy multiple times. But there are also plenty of cases where people only need one of. So I would find the ability to warn customers that they'd already purchased something as hugely beneficial, as opposed to a detriment.
Can we turn this into a product-level setting? I.e. I want to set these products to "warn against duplicate purchases" and then set other products to NOT "warn against duplicate purchases."

Now I'm confused, this feature request seems to suggest that such a thing already exists, but I've never seen it https://requests.simplero.com/feature-requests/p/remove-it-looks-like-you-already-purchased-this-product-from-subscription-order
